Saul Bellow,geb. 1915 in Lachine/Quebec (Kanada) wuchs in Chicago auf. Er studierte Soziologie und Anthropologie und lehrte an verschiedenen Universitäten. Für sein umfangreiches literarisches Werk erhielt Saul Bellow zahlreiche Auszeichnungen, 1976 den Nobelpreis für Literatur. Bellow starb 2005 im Alter von 89 Jahren in Brookline / Mass.
