Biografie
Nick Tosches, 1949 als Sohn eines Barkeepers in New Jersey geboren, wächst in einer Umgebung auf, "in der es keine Bücher, aber viele Buchmacher gab". Mit vierzehn geht er von der Schule ab und arbeitet zunächst als Kellner. Später findet er in einem New Yorker Unternehmen für Damenunterwäsche eine Stelle als Grafiker. 1972 setzt er sich Hals über Kopf nach Florida ab, wo er in den folgenden Jahren u.a. als Schlangenfänger für das Serpentarium in Miami tätig ist. Nachdem er von einer Schlange ins Bein gebissen wird, beschließt er, nach New York zurückzukehren und fortan als Kritiker selbst Gift zu verspritzen. Heute zählt Nick Tosches zu den bekanntesten Autoren Amerikas. Seine Biografien und Romane erreichen Bestsellerauflagen, er schreibt regelmäßig für Vanity Fair, Esquire und das Rolling Stone Magazine.
