Richard Thompson hat für die Aufnahmen zu seinem neuen Album "Electric" Buddy Miller (Robert Plant Band Of Joy, Solomon Burke, Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin) als Produzenten gewinnen können. Das Album wurde in Millers Studio in Nashville aufgenommen. Unterstützung erhielt er erneut vom Schlagzeuger Michael Jerome und vom Bassisten Taras Prodaniuk, die auch schon Teil der Band waren, die den Vorgänger "Dream Attic" (2010) eingespielt hat und mit ihm auf Tour war.
Zu den Gästen auf "Electric" gehört Alison Krauss, die bei dem Song "The Snow Goose" dabei ist, während die englische Singer / Songwriterin Siobhan Maher Kennedy (ex-River City People und jetzt in Nashville wohnhaft) auf mehreren Songs singt. Auch der großartige Fiddler Stuart Duncan, einer der führenden Bluegrass Musiker Amerikas, spielt auf dem Album. Er ist sicherlich vielen Fans durch seine Zusammenarbeit mit Robert Plant, Alison Krauss und Elvis Costello bekannt.
Richard Thompson selbst kommentierte sein neues Werk: "Wir haben es in unglaublich kurzer Zeit aufgenommen. Aber es hört sich toll an. Es stellte sich als überraschend funky heraus, wir haben wohl ein neues Genre kreiert: Folk-Funk. Es ist ziemlich flott und schmissig, irgendwo zwischen Judy Collins und Bootsy Collins.'

After taking the bold step of recording his last album of new songs live, when it came to recording ‘Electric’, Thompson turned to Buddy Miller (Robert Plant, Solomon Burke, Emmylou Harris. Patty Griffin) to produce, recording at Miller’s home studio in Nashville, TN. . Miller who himself is a renowned for his guitar skills recently told with Rolling Stone, “I played along on the record, playing rhythm guitar for him, and I got a two-week guitar lesson while he camped out in my house.”
