Das namengebende Debüt-Album des aus Rockford, Illinois stammenden Power-Pop/Hard Rock- Quintetts wurde im Record Plant, New York aufgenommen. Die meisten Songs wurden von Lead- Gitarrist/Pianist Rick Nielsen geschrieben. Obwohl das Album von den Kritikern geschätzt wurde, erreichte es nicht die Charts in den USA. (Die ersten vier Alben gelten heute bei Kritik und Fans die besten Arbeiten von Cheap Trick.)
In Japan entwickelte die Band eine Fangemeinde und ihr Debüt wurde zu ihrem ersten Gold-Album. 1987 coverten Big Black “He’s a whore” für ihr Album “Songs about fucking” und Concrete Blonde coverten “Mandocello” im Jahr 1994 für ihr
Album “Still in Hollywood”.
