Der legendäre Trompeter Miles Davis stand noch am Anfang seiner Karriere, als er in den Jahren 1952, 1953 und 1954 die drei Sessions aufnahm, aus denen seine Blue Note-Aufnahmen bestehen. Blue Note stellte die Tracks später in zwei 12"-LPs als Teil der 1500er-Serie zusammen. Die Musik weist alle Merkmale seines frühen Stils auf, vom wilden Bebop bis zu wunderschönen Balladen.
