Obwohl es das erste seiner Soloalben war, das die britischen Top 10 nicht erreichte, war Scott 4 vielleicht sein bestes und ehrgeizigstes Album bis heute. Ursprünglich 1969 veröffentlicht, ist es das erste Album, das ausschließlich Originale von Scott Walker enthält. Es ist auch das erste Album, das sich ein wenig von der stark streicherlastigen Produktion früherer Veröffentlichungen entfernt, so dass andere Klangeinflüsse von Country über Folk bis hin zu Soul durchscheinen können. Der lyrische Inhalt bleibt intensiv, da Walker alles von Krieg über Stalinismus bis hin zu Herzschmerz mit gleichem Erfolg anpackt. Ein Klassiker.
