Bekannt durch ihre Zeit als Sängerin bei Fairport Convention und weltweit respektiert als Robert Plants erste Alison Krauss (im Duett mit ihm auf »Led Zeppelins The Battle Of Evermore«), hinterließ Sandy Denny ein betörendes, sich ständig weiterentwickelndes Werk - Kate Bush erwähnte sie in einem Song, und Dennys Einfluss ist bei Generationen von Singer-Songwritern zu hören.
»Like An Old Fashioned Waltz« wurde zwar schon im Jahr zuvor aufgenommen, aber erst Anfang 1974 veröffentlicht 1974 veröffentlicht, kurz nachdem Denny wieder zu Fairport Convention gestoßen war. Ein unverschämt romantisches, sentimentales Album, das ihre beliebten Stücke »Solo« und »No End« sowie eine ausgelassene Version von »Fats Wallers Until The Real Thing Comes Along« mit »Diz Disley« an der Gitarre, Danny Thompson am Bass und Tony Coe am Saxophon. Die andere Coverversion auf dem Album war die von Whispering Grass von den Inkspots, die Folgendes hervorhob Like An Old Fashioned Waltz die warme, herbstliche Nostalgie unterstrich.
