»Goes West« klingt, als ob der frühere Lambchop-Gitarrist William Tyler darauf einen Weg gefunden hätte, sich direkt auf das reiche und bittersüße emotionale Zentrum seiner Musik zu konzentrieren, ohne durch musikalische Nebenausflüge abgelenkt zu werden.
Das liegt zum einen daran, dass sich Tyler - einer von Nashvilles versiertesten E-Gitarristen - diesmal bewusst dafür entschieden hat, auf seinem vierten Album ausschließlich zur akustischen Gitarre zu greifen. Und zum anderen erhielt William für seine neue Songsammlung diesmal Unterstützung u.a. von Meg Duffy und Bill Frisell (Gitarre), Brad Cook (Bassist und Produzent), James Wallace (Keyboard), Griffin Goldsmith (Schlagzeug) und Tucker Martine (Produzent) - die beste und sympathischste Truppe an Musikern, die Nashville zu bieten hat.
