Die 1950er Jahre zeichneten sich durch eine neue und mutigere politische und soziale Form der Satire aus, die man in Büchern und Zeitungen, auf der Bühne und im Radio, vor allem auch im aufkommenden neuen Medium, dem Fernseher, entdecken konnte, aber ebenso ihren Ausdruck in der Musik fand. Einer der individuellsten und beliebtesten musikalischen Satiriker dieser Zeit war Tom Lehrer. Mathematiker und Wissenschaftler von Beruf, erregte er 1953 mit der 10'' LP »Songs Of Tom Lehrer« und seinen ersten Songs Aufmerksamkeit. Einige Jahre später folgte 1959 das Live-Album »An Evening Wasted With Tom Lehrer« mit neuem Material, das später auch noch einmal als »More Of Tom Lehrer« im Studio aufgenommen wurde.
