Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk, Soul, Electronica – Thundercat konnte man noch nie auf ein einziges Genre reduzieren. Stattdessen holt der Fusion-Spezialist aus allen Stilen das Beste heraus. So, wie auf seinem neuen, mittlerweile vierten Album »It Is What It Is«.
Drei Jahre haben Fans auf den Nachfolger von »Drunk« gewartet.
Mit der Single »Black Qualls« präsentierte der Bassist, Producer und Grammy-Gewinner bereits einen Vorgeschmack auf die Platte, einen Kollabo-Track mit Gitarrist Steve Lacy von The Internet und Sänger Steve Arrington.
Und auch die übrige Gästeliste von »It Is What It Is« kann sich sehen beziehungsweise hören lassen: Childish Gambino, Ty Dolla $ign, Flying Lotus, BadBadNotGood, Lil’ B und Kamasi Washington sind diesmal mit von der Partie. Unterstützung bei der Produktion gab es von Louis Cole, Sounwave und Mono/Poly.
Das Ergebnis dieser Zusammenarbeit nennt Thundercat selbst ein Album über Liebe, Verlust, Leben und den damit einhergehenden Höhen und Tiefen.
»It Is What It Is« – Thundercats neues Album ist, was es ist: eine Songsammlung mit enormer Bandbreite, und zwar was die Themen, die Gäste und vor allem die Musik betrifft.
