Motown-Produzent und Songwriter Norman Whitfield gründete The Undisputed Truth, um den psychedelischen Soul, den er mit den Temptations in Songs wie »Cloud Nine« und »Psychedelic Shack« entwickelt hatte, weiter zu erforschen.
Die erste Single war »Save My Love For A Rainy Day«, die im Februar 1971 bei Gordy veröffentlicht wurde und auf Platz 43 der R&B-Charts landete. Es folgte »Smiling Faces Sometimes«, ein riesiger Hit, der auf Platz 2 der R&B-Charts und auf Platz 3 der Billboard Hot 100 landete.
Ihr gleichnamiges Debütalbum folgte und enthielt nicht nur alle auf 7inch veröffentlichten Singles, sondern auch eine fast interstellare Version von »Ball Of Confusion (That's What The World Is Today)«, »I Heard It Through The Grapevin« sowie einen sehr gefühlvollen Streifzug durch Bob Dylans »Like a Rolling Stone«. Titel wie »California Soul« und »Aquarius« erfüllten ebenfalls die Anforderungen des Psychedelic Soul. Ace hat nun endlich ein wertiges 180Gr. schweres Vinyl-Reissue (Black Vinyl) im Angebot und die Suche nach gut erhaltenen Original-Copies kann eingestellt werden.
