Seit mehr als 30 Jahren gibt es die deutsche Independent-Band The Notwist. 1989 von den Brüdern Markus Acher (Gesang, Gitarre) und Micha Acher (Bass) sowie Martin »Mecki« Messerschmidt (Schlagzeug) in Bayern gegründet, durchlief ihr Sound bis heute mehrere Stationen, obwohl die Gruppe in ihrer Besetzung relativ stabil blieb.
Während ihre letzten Alben, für die The Notwist die meiste Aufmerksamkeit erhalten haben und durch die sie mittlerweile zu Lieblingen des Feuilletons wurden, stark von elektronischer Musik beeinflusst wurden, bewegten sie sich zu Beginn ihrer Karriere noch in deutlich rockigeren und düsteren Gefilden. Diese musikalische Seite, »…eine einzigartige Gratwanderung zwischen melodiösem Independent, metallischen Rock und explosiven Hardcore-Parts«, zeigt auch das nach der Band benannte Debütalbum »The Notwist« aus dem Jahr 1990.
PS: Erst Anfang des Jahres erschien das neue, mittlerweile zwölfte Album von The Notwist: »Vertigo Days« erreichte in Deutschland Platz fünf der Charts.
