Auch wenn „The Gilded Palace of Sin” nicht die Top 200 der US-Charts erreichte, zählt dieses Album dennoch zu den wichtigen Veröffentlichungen des Rock der 1970er-Jahre. Gram Parsons und Chris Hillman schlagen hier weiter die Richtung ein, die sie zuletzt auch mit den „Byrds“ verfolgten. Sie machten Country cool, indem sie traditionelle Strömungen wie Folk und Country mit Gospel, Soul und Psychedelic Rock fusionierten. Nicht umsonst zählte das Rolling Stone Magazine „The Gilded Palace of Sin“ 2012 zu den 500 wichtigsten Alben aller Zeiten.
