Das zweite Album von The Communards, "Red", untermauerte das Genie der musikalischen Partnerschaft zwischen Bronski Beat-Sänger Jimmy Somerville und Pianist Richard Coles. Durch die Verbindung von Synthesizern und Hi-NRG-Produktion mit üppigen Streicher- und Bläserarrangements bewegten sich The Communards zwischen Pop und Politik, wobei die Themen des Albums vor dem Hintergrund der politischen Unruhen und der moralischen Panik der späten 80er Jahre in Großbritannien angesiedelt waren.
Diese neu gemasterte und erweiterte Ausgabe enthält eine Vielzahl von B-Seiten, Live-Tracks, Demo-Versionen und Remixen, darunter klassische Mixe der legendären 80er-Jahre-Club-Doyens Shep Pettibone, Clivilles & Cole (besser bekannt als C&C Music Factory) und einen euphorischen neuen 2022-Remix von "Never Can Say Goodbye" der britischen Band The 2 Bears (Joe Goddard von Hot Chip und DJ Raf Rundell) sowie neue Linernotes von Owen Jones.
