Das Album von 1993 war das bis dato am schnellsten verkaufte Debütalbum im UK überhaupt. Der Nachfolger »Dog Man Star« gilt als Opus Magnum der Band um Sänger Brett Anderson und Gitarrist Bernard Butler. Suedes zweites Album hat bei vielen Kritikern den Ruf als das beste Album der Band. Es erschließt sich nicht so schnell wie das Debüt, kann dafür aber mit der unfassbar schönen Single »The Wild Ones« punkten. Dazu das fast schon progressive, über 9 Minuten lange »The Asphalt World«, oder die weitere Single-Auskopplung »We Are The Pigs«. Bernard Butler verließ die Band im Streit während der Album-Mix-Phase.
