Spirit was a promising young U. S. band that starred boy wonder guitarist Randy California, formerly a student of Jimi Hendrix. Together with Jay Ferguson (vocals) and Ed ‘Cass’ Cassidy (drums), the group caused quite a stir in Europe, where they were warmly welcomed and appreciated for their musical expertise and jazz tinged rock’n’roll. Their shaven-headed drummer had played with the likes of Cannonball Adderley and Thelonious Monk, but the music of Spirit was closer to the rock vibe of the late 60s. This excellent 11 track 1968 debut, produced by Lou Adler, features ‘Uncle Jack’, ‘Fresh Garbage’ and ‘Girl In Your Eye’, as well as four bonus tracks from 1967
