Das Debütalbum von Snow Patrol wurde von den drei ursprünglichen Mitgliedern geschrieben und aufgenommen: Gary Lightbody, Mark McClelland und Jonny Quinn. Bei einigen Stücken wirken auch Mitglieder von Belle and Sebastian mit.
Der Melody Maker beschrieb Snow Patrol 1998 als »irgendwo zwischen den volkstümlichen Träumereien von Sebadoh und dem Laserstrahl-Lärm vieler aufgeregter Bands, die deine Mutter nicht mögen würde«.
Das Album wurde zwischen August 1997 und Juni 1998 in den Chamber Studios in Edinburgh, Schottland, mit Jamie Watson als Produzent aufgenommen.
Mit exklusivem Kunstdruck, der dem Original-Promotionsplakat für das Album nachempfunden ist und auf dessen Rückseite ein Textzitat zu finden ist.
