Der Begriff Power Pop wurde 1967 von Pete Townshend geprägt, um den Unterschied zwischen The Who und Konkurrenten wie Herman's Hermits hervorzuheben. Power Pop hat von den 70er Jahren bis heute eine starke Underground-Präsenz bewahrt, und hat, auch wegen der Verquickung mit ähnlichen Stilen, nach wie vor weltweit Fans. Dementsprechend wurde für diese 24-Track-Compilation der Zeitrahmen großzügig erweitert von 1978 bis 2018, um Wachstum und Entwicklung des Genres anhand auch weniger bekannten Power Pop-Tracks besser widerzuspiegeln.
