Cowboy Bebop von Hajime Yatate ist die japanische Animeserie aus den späten 90er Jahren, die auf dem gleichnamigen Manga basiert. Die Handlung ist in der Zukunft angesiedelt und vermischt klassische Science-Fiction-Elemente mit Versatzstücken von Film noir, Western, Kung-Fu und Gangster-Drama. Die Geschichte setzt im Jahr 2071 ein und schildert die Abenteuer der Besatzung des Raumschiffs Bebop. Diese besteht aus insgesamt fünf Mitglieder, die alle sind Kopfgeldjäger, sogenannte Cowboys, und sich Hals über Kopf in spannende Abenteuer stürzen.

Genauso spannend wie die Handlung ist auch der Original Series Soundtrack der Japanischen Band "The Seatbelts", unter der Leitung des Instrumentalisten Yoko Kanno. Das Repertoire von Seatbelts umfasst neben Jazz, auch Rock, Elektronik, Funk, Blues, Heavy Metal, Country und J-Pop und kann als eine bunte, avantgardistische, ja schon fast futuristische Verschmelzung der Genres betrachtet werden. Wobei die meisten Songs des Soundtracks jazzige Big Band-Musik mit Country-Musik-Elementen sind, umfasst die B-Seite von afrikanischer Musik beeinflusste Stücke.
