Quorthon war ein schwedischer Musiker. Er war Gründer und Songschreiber der Band Bathory, die Pionierarbeit im Black-Metal-Genre leistete und für die Entwicklung des Viking-Metal-Stils verantwortlich gemacht wird.
Als Multiinstrumentalist schrieb Quorthon die Musik und die Texte für alle Bathory-Alben und war auch als Sänger und Gitarrist tätig. »Purity of Essence« wurde 1997 veröffentlicht und war das zweite Studioalbum, das Quorthon als Soloprojekt herausbrachte. Es enthält 23 epische Tracks, die sich auf eine Doppel-CD verteilen - diese Version wurde eigens auf Vinyl überspielt und ist hier als massive, schwergewichtige Doppel-LP erhältlich.
