»The Punishment Of Luxury« heißt das neue Album von Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark, kurz OMD, ihre mittlerweile 13. Studioplatte und der Nachfolger zu »English Electric«.
Mit ihrem neuen Album besinnen sich die britischen Synth-Pop-Legenden 2017 auf ihre Ursprünge und geben sich so experimentierfreudig wie schon lange nicht mehr.
Zwölf brandneue Songs sind der Beweis für diese These, darunter auch die erste Singleauskopplung »La Mitrailleuse« (deutsch: Maschinengewehr), die ihrem Namen alle Ehre macht: mit geloopten Kanonenfeuersounds neben mönchischen Gesängen. Alle Tracks entstanden abwechselnd in den beiden Studios der Gründungsmitglieder Andy McCluskey und Paul Humphreys in Merseyside und London, wo sie schließlich auch aufgenommen und produziert wurden.
Der Name »The Punishment Of Luxury« stammt übrigens von einem Gemälde des italienischen Malers Giovanni Segantini aus dem Jahr 1891. McCluskey hatte es zuvor in der Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool gesehen.
Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark sind 2017 voll in ihrem Element: »The Punishment Of Luxury« ist ein facettenreiches, jugendliches aber charakteristisches OMD-Album. Ein weiterer Synth-Pop-Meilenstein.
