Blues Legende Luther Allison meldete sich 1995 zurück, mit einem neuen Studioalbum, das vor Energie und Vitalität nur so strotzte. Im May 1996 erhielt er bei der 17. Verleihung des W. C. Handy Awards (Grammy des Blues) in Memphis, TN 5 der begehrten Trophäen, für dieses großartige Album.

Endlich bekam dieser Mann, der über Jahre den Blues zelebrierte, die längst überfällige Anerkennung in Form dieser 5 „Handy Awards“. Wie der Vorgänger „Bad Love“, von der amerikanischen Presse hochgelobt, wurde „Blue Streak“ in Memphis, TN eingespielt. Mit von der Partie waren Star Producer Jim Gaines und die Memphis Horns. „Blue Streak“ war ein weiterer konsequenter Schritt für Luther Allison in seiner Heimat USA, einen endgültigen Durchbruch in die Oberliga des Blues zu schaffen. Billboard überschlug sich bereits im Vorfeld: „his guitar is marvelous and flashy as well as bluesy, and his voice reminds more of then anybody of Otis Redding…“
In der Tat: “Blue Streak” sind ausgefeilte Bluessongs der Marke Allison, eine soulgetränkte Stimme und eine absolut starke Gitarre.
