Der Chicago-Blues-Gitarrist arbeitete neben seiner Lefty Bates Combo mit zahlreichen Künstlern, die bekanntesten davon wohl John Lee Hooker, Buddy Guy oder Etta James. Nur vier der 28 hier kompilierten Songs wurden unter seinem Namen veröffentlicht, die restlichen Aufnahmen, alle zwischen 1946 und 1962 zeigen Lefty Bates Signature Style bei Aufnahmen für Künstler wie Aristo-Kats, Piney Brown, Etta James, John Lee Hooker, Earl Washington, Al Smith, Big Bertha Henderson, The Spaniels und viele andere. Der einflussreiche Linkshänder-Gitarrist verstarb 2007 im Alter von 87 Jahren.
