Hibotep ist somalischer Abstammung. Geboren und aufgewachsen in Äthiopien, lebt sie derzeit in Kampala, Uganda. Hibo Elmi ist ein lebendes Beispiel für die Vielfalt der Kunst- und Kulturszene Kampalas und ist unter anderem DJ, Filmemacherin, Modedesignerin, Installationskünstlerin, Rapperin und Produzentin. Sie bezeichnet sich selbst als kulturelle Nomadin, die ein Genre vorantreibt, das sie »Industrial Shamanism« nennt.
