»John Prine (Live)« 2024 zum ersten Mal auf Vinyl erhältlich.
Dieses Album wurde hauptsächlich während eines dreitägigen Aufenthaltes im The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano, Kalifornien, aufgezeichnet. Es wurde auf Oh Boy Records, Prines eigenem Independent-Label, veröffentlicht. Die Version von »Angel From Montgomery« wurde bei einem All-Star-Gedenkkonzert für Steve Goodman (der 1984 an Leukämie starb) aufgenommen, das im Januar 1985 in Chicago stattfand, und später im selben Jahr als Tribute To Steve Goodman veröffentlicht.
Prine wird von Bonnie Raitt (die »Angel From Montgomery« auf ihrem 1974er Streetlights-Album aufnahm) und dem Gitarristen David Bromberg begleitet. Die Version von »Souvenirs« stammt aus einem Auftritt von Prine und Goodman aus den 1970er Jahren in der Fernsehsendung Austin City Limits.
