Beide Alben verkauft gut in Japan (wo der Bandname half einetreue Gefolgschaft aufzubauen) und den Niederlanden, wo die Single »Adolescent Sex« ein Hit wurde.
Die Musik von Japan wurde zu dieser Zeit in England »eine sehr europäische Formation aus eigenständigem, sexuell-doppeldeutigem und geistreichem Art-Pop«.
