Die Band begann als Folk-Metal-Band mit viel Akkordeoneinsatz und hat ihren Sound zu einer Art epischen und cineastischen Mischung aus Post-, Post-Black-, Black- und Folk-Metal entwickelt, den sie selbst Black Forest Metal nennen, um damit auf ihre Wurzeln im Schwarzwald zu verweisen. Während der Covid-Pandemie baten Finsterforst ihre Fans um Hilfe bei der Finanzierung einer neuen EP mit nur einem Song, der fast 40 Minuten dauert und das vorliegende Album »Jenseits« war geboren.
