Das im Mai 1972 veröffentlichte Album »Honky Château« machte Elton John zum Superstar und läutete eine neue Ära für ihn ein. Benannt nach den Wohnstudios außerhalb von Paris, in denen das Album aufgenommen wurde, brachte »Honky Château« ein neues Maß an Einfachheit und Direktheit in Eltons Musik, das zuvor nur flüchtig zu erkennen gewesen war. Ohne die Komplexität und die kunstvollen Orchestrierungen seiner jüngsten Werke wirkte »Honky Château« freier und intimer.
Diese Sondereditionen enthalten das Originalalbum, sowohl auf Vinyl als auch auf CD und eine neu zusammengestellte Auswahl von Outtakes aus den Sessions, die von Matt Still von den Originalbändern produziert wurden und die Wärme und den Humor der Sessions hervorheben.
Nur auf der CD befinden sich acht Titel des Albums, die 1972 in der Royal Festival Hall aufgenommen wurden. Das Album wurde mit der gewohnten Sorgfalt von Eltons Katalogteam zusammengestellt und kommt im Klappcover mit einem Booklet mit seltenen Fotos, Erinnerungsstücken und einem Essay von Co-Kurator und Musikautor Daryl Easlea. »Honky Château« wurde bei Lurssen in Kalifornien gemastert, und das Vinyl wurde in Abbey Road geschnitten.
