»Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player« ist das sechste Studioalbum Elton Johns. Es erschien ursprünglich am 26. Januar 1973.

Alle Titel für das Album hatte John innerhalb von nur zwei Tagen komponiert und schließlich im Studio Château d’Hérouville in der Nähe von Paris aufgenommen, darunter auch die Singles »Crocodile Rock« und »Daniel«.

»Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player« erreichte sowohl in Großbritannien als auch in den USA Platz eins der Charts.

Der Bekanntheitsgrad des Party-Knallers ›Crocodile Rock‹ brachte auch die LP selbst in den Album-Charts in Deutschland bis auf Platz 16 und erzielte damit eine bessere Platzierung als Johns Rekordalbum ›Goodbye Yellow Brick Road ein Jahr später… Don't Shoot Me I'm Only The Puzzle Player…!
