Seit nun schon 30 (!) Jahren sind die Norweger am Start. Darkthrone ist zu einem festen Bestandteil des Black Metal geworden und hat das Genre stets mitgestaltet. In ihren Gründungsjahren setzten Darkthrone zunächst mit einer krassen Mischung aus Thrash und Death/Doom Metal ein Zeichen, bevor 1991 das Debütalbum Soulside Journey‹ veröffentlicht wurde.
Darkthrone standen nie still und folgten keinen Konventionen. Ihr zweites Album ›A Blaze In The Northern Sky‹ zeigte eine viel dunklere und primitivere Seite ihres Sounds auf und der Rest ist Geschichte… Nun kehrt das langjährige Duo Fenriz und Nocturno Culto mit seinem ersten Studioalbum seit 2016 ›Arctic Thunder‹ in Form von ›Old Star‹ zurück.
Sechs epische Tracks aus der alten Schule des Black Metal mit einer Dosis Doomgeladener Riffs zeigen, wer die Könige des Undergrounds sind. Nocturno Culto übernahm wieder einmal die Produktion, während Sanford Parker (Voivod) den Mix übernahm.
