Obwohl Sie an anderer Stelle zweifellos lesen werden, dass Quincy Jones der erste Schwarze war, der eine leitende Position in einer großen Plattenfirma innehatte, kam ihm der mächtige Clyde Otis (er war 1, 90 m groß) um einige Jahre vor ihm.
Am bekanntesten ist er vielleicht für seine lange, äußerst erfolgreiche Zusammenarbeit mit Brook Benton, Songwriter / Bandleader / Arrangeur / Produzent, besaß Otis perfekte Ohren und war ein sehr erfolgreicher Autor und Produzent. Zu Beginn seiner Karriere war er als Plattenkünstler tätig, »Clyde Otis And His Orchestra«; Disc 1 dieser einzigartigen Zusammenstellung enthält Titel von seinen eigenen LPs und 45rpms. Disc 2 präsentiert Otis als Songwriter, Arrangeur und Produzent und stellt eine Handvoll eine Handvoll wichtiger Hits und Millionenseller einer Auswahl von Sammlerraritäten gegenüber. Vieles von dem Material auf Disc 1 ist ist auf anderen CDs nicht erhältlich, ebenso wie einige der eher esoterischen, sammelwürdigen Seiten auf Disc 2.
