Muance is a combination of »Mutation« and »Nuance«. A mixture of words which perfectly corresponds to the idea of metamorphosis that has always haunted the thoughts of the musician, Chapelier Fou. For this new long format, Chapelier Fou plays a wide variety of instruments (violin of course, his favourite instrument but also guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, synths and Farfisa).
His compositions are also enriched with samples from old vinyls of bebop jazz, classical or world music. This brings a certain change of scenery when Chapelier Fou samples instruments from afar such as the Peruvian flute, bandoura and balalaïka. With this latter instrument, Louis Warynski (his real name) evokes his Ukrainian roots. To represent the album as the first single, the song ›Philemon‹ was chosen for its melody and addictive central figure of course but mainly because it perfectly embodies the record's overall contents.
We can already say without hesitation that this is surely one of Chapelier Fou's future classics. To give air and depth to his compositions, Chapelier Fou asked Chab to do the mastering on the album. Chab is a sought-after specialist who worked on the last Daft Punk album along with records by La Femme, Sébastien Tellier, Air, Benjamin Clementine and Flavien Berger among others.
