Mitte der 1980er kreierte der ex-New York Dolls-Sänger David Johansen ein Alter Ego – Buster Poindexter – unter dem er als »Entertainer« in New Yorker Clubs auftrat. Dies führte zu einem Vertrag mit RCA und TV-Auftritte u. a. bei »Saturday Night Live« und »Jay Leno«. Die beiden vorliegenden Alben hat Poindexter / Johansen 1987 und 1989 veröffentlicht, und sie enthalten neben seinem wohl bekanntesten Song, »Hot Hot Hot«, noch starke Interpretationen u. a. von »Hit The Road Jack«, »House Of The Rising Sun«, »Smack Dab In The Middle« und »International Playboy«.
