Benny Andersson nimmt erstmals seine persönliche Auswahl von ABBA-Hits auf dem Piano auf.

Als Hauptsongwriter für ABBA war er für unzählige Nr. 1-Hits verantwortlich, durch die das Kultquartett in Rekordgeschwindigkeit zu einer der erfolgreichsten Formationen des 20. Jahrhunderts avancierte; ein globales Pop-Phänomen, das mit seinen Evergreens perfekt den Zeitgeist einer Ära einfing und bis heute ganze Hörer-Generationen rund um den Planeten begeistert.
 
Nach fast einer halben Milliarde weltweit verkaufter Tonträger und unzähligen Gold- und Platin-Awards präsentiert sich der schwedische Musiker, Komponist und Produzent nun auf »Piano« erstmalig von einer völlig anderen Seite.
 


Schon in jungen Jahren brachte sich Benny Andersson selbst das Klavierspielen bei; die Ausgangsbasis sämtlicher großer Welthits aus der Feder des mittlerweile 70-jährigen Autodidakten, der mit seinem neuen Soloalbum nun wieder zu seinem musikalischen Ursprung zurückkehrt: Dem Flügel. Auf »Piano« gibt sich Andersson pur und unverfälscht; ein Maestro der leisen Zwischentöne, der auf seinem Fazioli-Klavier aufs Nötigste reduzierte und hoch fragile Kompositionen darbietet: Melodie, Harmonie und Rhythmus – die drei Eckpfeiler in Anderssons Musik. Je einfacher und reduzierter, desto besser.

Neben Solostücken wie »Embassy Lament« oder »Midnattsdans« entblättert Benny Andersson auch erstmals ein Song aus seinem »Chess«-Musical sowie ausgewählte Hits aus dem ABBA-Repertoire bis auf ihre DNA und verleiht Evergreens wie »Thank You For The Music« oder »Happy New Year« eine nie gekannte, klassische Strahlkraft. Ein Glanz, in dem sowohl seine Liebe zu Johann Sebastian Bach, als auch zur schwedischen Volksmusik, dem Kabarett, dem Musical, der Oper und der Popmusik spürbar ist. »Interpretationen voller ungekünstelter Reinheit, die ohne jeden überflüssigen Schnörkel arrangiert wurden. Weltberühmte, beliebte Stücke, die uns in einer nie da gewesenen Direktheit berühren«, so Andersson über sein Werk.

Benny Andersson hat auf seinem Album erstmalig seine persönliche Auswahl von Abba-Hits und weiteren Werken, wie das berühmte Musical Chess, auf Klavier neu komponiert und eingespielt.

Entstanden sind kleine, elegante Piano-Balladen zwischen Piano-Bar und Neoklassik, die sowohl die Herzen eingefleischter Klavierliebhaber, als auch die leidenschaftlicher Popfans höher schlagen lassen!

»Piano« takes listeners on a 21-track journey through his acclaimed and celebrated career as songs from ABBA, his musicals and other solo-compositions are re-interpreted as you have never heard them before, performed unaccompanied by just Benny himself, on his trusted grand piano. The album was recorded with Linn Fijal, engineer and studio manager at his own RMV Studios, on the island of Skeppsholmen, in the heart of his hometown Stockholm.

These are tender, touching and emotional arrangements, highlighting the theatrical, as well as classical-like qualities, both in writing and performance of music that has touched millions around the world since ABBA first came together in 1972. The music on this album reinforces Benny’s profound gift for melody, a gift shared with many great classical composer-pianists throughout history, that have also inspired him throughout his life and career.

In endeavouring to reach for some core within them, I have found that the more I strip away the clothing, the closer I feel to the music, regardless of whether it was created last year or 40 years ago. In a strange way, I feel like I am playing my memoirs.«
