Zusammen mit Gruppen wie The Bangles und den Go-Go’s wurden Bananarama um Siobhan Fahey, Keren Woodward und Sarah Dallin zum Prototyp der 1980er Girlgroup, und waren Vorreiterinnen für Gruppen wie die Spice Girls. Die 1981 gegründete Formation hatte erste Hits wie ‘Shy Boy‘, ‘Cruel Summer‘ oder ‘Robert de Niro‘s Waitin‘‘, die auf das Konto des Produzententeams Steve Jolley und Tony Swain gingen. Die hatten bereits Imagination (‘Just an Illusion‘) und Alison Moyets Erstwerk ‘Alf‘ (‘All Cried Out‘, ‘Invisible‘) produziert und in Goldstatus verwandelt. Von 1986 bis 1989 wurden sie von dem Hitproduzenten-Trio Stock Aitken Waterman betreut. Deren erste Arbeit mit dem Trio, ‘Venus‘, ursprünglich von Shocking Blue, wurde direkt ein Mega-Hit.
Demon / Edsel veröffentlicht nun sechs erfolgreiche Top-Alben des Trios in 2CD Deluxe-Editionen inkl. DVD. Sie wurden mit Tonnenweise Bonusmaterial ergänzt (7“ Mixe, Extended Versions, Spanish Versions, Dub-Mixe, 12“ Mixe etc.) und sind von umfangreichen, brandneuen Linernotes begleitet. Zusätzlich erscheinen sie im edlen Casebound-Digibook.
Das Debüt ‘Deep Sea Skiving‘ kommt mit den Single-Hits ‘Shy Boy‘, ‘Na Na Hey Hey (Kiss Him Goodbye)‘ und ‘Cheers Then’. Die erste Single ‘Aie A Mwana’ wurde von Paul Cook (!) produziert. Paul Weller und Barry Blue waren ebenfalls als Songautoren dabei. 19 Bonustracks, dazu 4 Videos und 4 BBC-Tracks auf DVD.
