»Salvation«, das am 1. September 1997 veröffentlicht wurde, war das fünfte Studioalbum von Alphaville und läutete eine neue Phase in ihrer musikalischen Entwicklung ein. Es war das erste Alphaville-Album ohne Ricky Echolette und das letzte mit Bernhard Lloyd, der die Band 2003 verließ. Aus dem Album gingen die Singles »Wishful Thinking« und »Flame« hervor. Es wurde von Andy Richards produziert und im Gegensatz zu seinen Vorgängern hauptsächlich in den Londoner Eden Studios aufgenommen, wobei weitere Aufnahmen in den Metropolis Studios und den Stone Room Studios stattfanden. Die Abmischung fand ebenfalls in diesen drei Studios sowie im Nucleus Recording Studio statt.
»Salvation (Deluxe Edition)« erscheint als 3CD-Deluxe-Version und enthält das Originalalbum (remastered) auf CD 1, 16 Singles und Remixe auf CD 2 sowie 17 Demos und Remixe auf CD 3 sowie ein Digipack mit einem 16-seitigen Booklet.
