Product Information
I first met Eddie in 1983 in the Red Lion pub which was his local. He lived next door in Herne Place where he ran a recording studio. At the time he was working on a new idea based around the book "Wind in the Willows" by Kenneth Grahame. I found Eddie a quiet and introvert character on a personal level but soon realised he was consumed with his writing for the album. Each time we met, we talked about the guest artists who would sing or play on the album, people I'm afraid I had never heard of because of my ignorance on the subject of music. Of course I listened to the music and knew songs that I liked but as for who played on them....!
Over the following year I was to meet Zak, Ringo's son, who played drums on all the tracks, and Tony Barton both who were close friends of Eddie's and even accompanied us on several dates!! I was in the studio one evening listening to a playback of one of the tracks when Ringo appeared in the room, of course I instantly knew who he was! Even thoug I was ignorant of most musicians, I knew a Beatle when I saw one! He had come to see what this project was all about and must have approved because Zak who was only 17 at the time was there the next day... and every other!
As the months went by, Eddie was giving me each track on a cassette and wanted to know what I thought and finally told me that the songs were in fact about me and our lives at the time. Of course I was very flattered and impressed that Eddie was such a talented writer and keyboard player. I started to play the tracks over and over, in the house, in the car, and even took them to girlfriends houses to listen to my love affair put to music.
The album was finished and there followed a trip to the music festival in Cannes with Zak and Tony. I was send around town in taxis with cassettes for record companies and gained am insight into how the music business worked. An album was released.
A few years passed and we decided a concert would be a good idea if we could get all the artists to agree to do it. Many of them were friends of Eddie's and they all agreed. It was staged, filmed, and recorded in Freiburg on the 13th June 1991. We had been married for 6 years. During those years I had listened to all the songs Eddie had written but "Wind in the Willows" will always be the best thing he has ever done for obvious reasons. Every time I hear the songs it takes me back to happy days and memories of wonderful friendships, a wonderful romance and Fun Fun Fun.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank personally all the artists who played at the concert, they gave me so much pleasure, so much talent on one stage it made me cry. It was such a special moment for me and I felt proud. Thanks to Pete York for organising the filming at Freiburg.
I hope this gives you an idea of why and how the concert came to be and I sincerely wish you all enjoy the songs, especially "The wild wood" performed by Tony Ashton R. I.P.
