Als die Soldaten des legendären Maori-Bataillons in den Zweiten Weltkrieg zogen, brachten sie Lieder mit, die die Liebe und die Gebete der Daheimgebliebenen zum Ausdruck brachten.
Es gab Hymnen, Hakas und beliebte Action-Songs sowie den mitreißenden »Marsch zum Sieg« des Maori-Bataillons! Diese wurden in einem Stil gesungen, der Teil der Legende des Bataillons wurde.
Diese einzigartigen Aufnahmen wurden von der Middle East Recording Unit des neuseeländischen National Broadcasting Service »live« vor Ort im Sand Ägyptens, während Artilleriegefechten in Nordafrika und in den grünen Tälern Süditaliens gemacht.
Die Aufnahmen fingen die pure Ausgelassenheit und Energie der Darbietungen ein und vermitteln etwas von der Dramatik der epischen Ereignisse, an denen das Bataillon während des Zweiten Weltkriegs beteiligt war.
