October Rust ist das am wenigsten offenkundig nihilistische Album von Type O. Die meisten der Songs sind Vignetten über Liebe, Sexualität und Verlust.
Musikalisch ist "October Rust" das melodischste und konsequenteste Werk der Band. Es gibt keine scherzhaften Thrashcore-Sprüche oder industrielles Geklirre wie auf den vorherigen Alben. Gitarrist Kenny Hickey liefert immer noch jede Menge kopfschüttelnde Sabbath-Riffs, und Steeles unnachahmlicher Bass ist immer noch eine treibende Kraft, aber sie sind in der Mischung mit Silvers Spiel ausgewogener.
