Kaum eine andere Band der 1980er Jahre veränderte in so kurzer Zeit ihren Sound und ihren Stil dermaßen radikal wie die Formation Talk Talk. Binnen sechs Jahren (1982 - 1988) und vier Alben bei der Firma EMI wandelte sie sich vom New Romantics-Pop auf dem Debüt-Album "The Party's Over" mit kleineren Hits wie "Talk Talk" oder "Today" hin zum fast schon archaischen Avantgarde-Rock/Pop auf "Spirit Of Eden". Bei diesem Album wurde die Band durch illustre Gäste wie etwa den Geiger Nigel Kennedy oder die Kontrabass-Legende Danny Thompson unterstützt.
