Alben wie »Our Favourite Shop« (1985), »The Cost Of Loving« ('87) und »Confessions of a Pop Group« ('88) brachten der britischen Band The Style Council großes Lob seitens Kritiker, und mehrere weltweite Charterfolge ein.
Mit Songs wie »Walls Come Tumbling Down«, »You're The Best Thing«, »My Ever Changing Moods« und »The Paris Match« schaffte es »Our Favourite Shop« bis auf Platz 23 der deutschen Album Charts. Die 14 Eigenkompositionen gingen mit Rassismus, exzessivem Konsumverhalten und Politik hart ins Gericht.
Auch das zwei Jahre später veröffentlichte Album »The Cost Of Loving« wurde in UK vergoldet und konnte mit Hits wie »Heavens Above« und dem Titelsong Charterfolge feiern.
