Das dritte Studioalbum »Soul To Soul« von Stevie Ray Vaughan erschien 1985, nur zwei Jahre nach seinem erfolgreichen Debüt »Texas Flood«.
Auf dem Weg in Richtung eines souligeren, R&B-lastigen Bluessounds rekrutierte Vaughan zwei neue Bandmitglieder an Keyboard und Saxophon. Die Band kannte sich mit Coverversionen von Songs von Hank Ballard, Doyle Bramhall und Willie Dixon aus, was dem modernen Bluessound von Stevie Ray Vaughan zu Gute kam. Seine Eigenkompositionen wie »Say What«, »Ain't Gone'n'Give Up On Love« und »Life Without You« zeigen einen Künstler, der leidenschaftlich dem wahren Blues frönt, sich jedoch gleichzeitig in punkto Songwriting weiterentwickelt.

First the addition of keyboardist Reese Wynans expands the sound, adding textural possibilities.
