Er gilt als einer der besten Songwriter unserer Zeit. Stephin Merrit, kreativer Kopf der Magnetic Fields, veröffentlicht Anfang Oktober "Obscurities", eine Sammlung von vierzehn zum Teil unveröffentlichten und heute nur noch schwer erhältlichen Songs.
Drei Stücke stammen aus dem unvollendeten Science Fiction Musical "The Songs From Venus", das Merritt zusammen mit Daniel Handler geschrieben hat, fünf Songs sind bisher nur auf 7" Vinyl erschienene Magnetic Fields Produktionen.
