Ray Charles hatte sich 1961 bereits fest an der Spitze der Popularmusik etabliert. In den Fünfzigern veröffentlichte er mehrere R&B-Hitsingles über Atlantic Records und schwenkte 1959 mit „What’d I Say” erfolgreich ins Mainstream-Lager über. In den Sechzigern wechselte er von Atlantic Records zu ABC und feierte dort weitere riesige Erfolge.
Die zwei Konzerte dieser DVD mit Hits wie „Let The Good Times Roll”, „Georgia On My Mind”, „One Mint Julep”, „Sticks And Stones”, „What’d I Say”, „Hallelujah, I Love Her So” oder „Tell The Truth” wurden im Juli 1961 beim Antibes Jazz Festival gefilmt, als sich Ray Charles auf dem Höhepunkt seiner Schaffenskraft befand.
Der im Original auf 16mm gefilmte Streifen wurde liebevoll restauriert und wird jetzt zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht. Das Bonusmaterial umfasst weitere Stücke des Festivals vom 19. Juli 1961 („The Story”, „Sticks And Stones”, „Yes Indeed”, „I Believe To My Soul”, „What’d I Say”) und vom 21. Juli 1961 („I Wonder”).
