"Rage Against the Machine" (oder RATM) wurde 1991 in Los Angeles gegründet. "Evil Empire" (1996) war der Nachfolger ihres äußerst erfolgreichen, selbstbetitelten Debütalbums (1992). "Evil Empire" erreichte Platz 1 in den US-Charts, in Deutschland und Österreich reichte es "nur" zu Position 2.

RATM spent four years making this second album with the he. typical vocals from lead vocalist Zach de la Rocha caught halfway between Chuck D and a fanatic street preacher. The band fully execute their metal / hip-hop fusion with the typical no-nonsense energy RATM always produce.
