Die musikalische Entwicklung der Band Queen vom Debüt zu ihrem dritten Album Sheer Heart Attack ist bemerkenswert. Nur knappe 1,5 Jahre liegen zwischen den Veröffentlichungen, zudem war Brian May aufgrund einer Erkrankung bei den Aufnahmen zeitweise abwesend. Und doch: Sheer Heart Attack ist das Album, mit dem Queen zu ihrem eigenen Sound fanden. Die Single Killer Queen, geschrieben von Freddy Mercury, wurde zu einem enormen Erfolg. Doch auch die anderen drei Bandmitglieder treten hier als Songwriter in Erscheinung und machen das Album mit schweren Gitarren, poppigen Hooks und ihrem theatralen Stil zum Ereignis.
