"With her voice soaring, foot stomping, this beautiful songbird transcends time and brings the message of our Ancestors who have sewn this beautiful seed, that makes powerful music". -Taj Mahal-
Pura Fe' is half Tuscarora Indian on her mother's side and claims a direct link between Native American music and the blues. Her own music is a heady mixture of blues, Noth Carolina traditional Native American music and folk. Praise for her first album was unanimous. "Tuscarora Nation Blues" surprised critics with its original magic in a musical genre where imitation reigns unchallenged. On her first album, Pura Fe' sang how slavery brought together blacks and Indians from the South (a lot of blues artists share and take pride in the same dual heritage), bringing us the age-old message of the Native American world.
Although "Hold The Rain" begins and ends with a Native American song Pura Fe wrote and recorded twelve years ago in North Carolina in an effort to unite the tribes in the area, this new album is very different from the first. Pura Fe's political involvement with her community makes way for a more intimate and personal approach. She now lives in Seattle and "Hold The Rain" is the result of her meeting with Danny Godinez, a guitarist and arranger, who put his talent to work on her songs and feelings. Also, Eric Bibb, one of Pura's favorite artists, joins her on "People You Love", a song he wrote for her. Deep, moving and magical. Pura Fe's "Hold The Rain", like its predecessor, comes across with a genuine feeling of simplicity, dignity and spirituality. Her Indian soul shines through the album.
