Peter Gabriel: Scratch My Back And I'll Scratch Yours (180g) on 2 LPs

Peter Gabriel schuf mit seinem Album "Scratch My Back / And I'll

Scratch Yours" eben diesen Austausch. Gabriel und weitere Künstler

interpretieren Songs anderer Künstler jeweils neu.

Die erste Hälfte dieses Doppel-Albums, "Scratch My Back" genannt, wurde original im Jahr 2010 veröffentlicht. Peter Gabriel covert Songs diverser etablierter Künstler, zum Beispiel David Bowie, Paul Simon und Lou Reed, nimmt sich aber auch Werke jüngerer Bands, wie Arcade Fire, Bon Iver oder

Radiohead, vor und interpretiert deren Arbeit neu.

Viele dieser Künstler konnten im Jahr 2013 erhebliche Erfolge verbuchen. Nun

erwiderten diese Peter Gabriels Projekt, indem sie seine Titel covern.

Einige entschieden sich, originalgetreue Coverversionen zu schaffen, andere

wiederum schufen Neuinterpretationen, die nur entfernt an das Original

erinnern. So zum Beispiel Lou Reeds "Solsbury Hill" oder die neurotische,

futuristische Version von "Mother Of Violence", neu interpretiert von

Brian Eno, der auch als Co-Writer für Bowies "Heroes" agierte,

welches Gabriel ebenfalls auf "Scratch My Back" covert.

Neben den genannten Künstlern leisten auch weitere ihren Beitrag zu dem Album,

darunter Arcade Fire("Games Without Frontiers"), Elbow ("Mercy

Street") und Regina Spektor ("Blood Of Eden").

The first half of this double album, titled Scratch My Back, was originally released in 2010. Gabriel covers work by seasoned superstars like David Bowie, Paul Simon and Lou Reed, but he also took on marvelous interpretations of work by younger acts like Arcade Fire, Bon Iver and Radiohead. In 2013, most of these artists returned the favour on. And I'll Scratch Yours. The reciprocating artists opted for differing approaches to Peter's songs. A few chose to radically reinterpret the original material, in the process leaving it barely recognisable - Lou Reed's snarling "Solsbury Hill" or the frighteningly futuristic version of "Mother Of Violence" by Brian Eno, co-writer of David Bowie's "Heroes" covered by Gabriel on Scratch My Back.
