Vor gut 25 Jahren erschien Paul Simons Grammy Album Graceland, das bis heute Fans und Musiker auf der ganzen Welt beeinflusst und inspiriert und sich allein in 1986 14 Mio mal verkaufte.
Zur Feier des 25th Anniversary drehte der zweifache Emmy-Gewinner Joe Berlinger den neuen Docu-Film "Under African Skies" über die Geschichte des Albums mit vielen Interviews und Live Ausschnitten. Er beleuchtet die Entstehung und die andauernde Wirkung des Albums. Neben vielen Live-Ausschnitten kommen bedeutende Anti-Apartheid-Aktivisten sowie Quincy Jones, Harry Belafonte, Paul McCartney, David Byrne und Peter Gabriel zu Wort.
Der Film wurde auf den Sundance Film Festivals in USA und in UK vorgestellt und nimmt den Zuschauer mit auf eine Reise in die Vergangenheit, wieder ans Kap der Guten Hoffnung. Simons Entscheidung, mit afrikanischen Künstlern zu arbeiten, führte zu einer nie gehörten Fusion in Sachen Weltmusik. Hier bringt er seine musikalischen Mitstreiter von damals noch einmal zusammen, um mit ihnen auf der Bühne eine grandiose Wiedervereinigung zu feiern. In diesen Szenen wird deutlich, dass Paul Simons Album bis heute nichts von seiner Wirkung verloren hat.
