Man nennt sie "Merry" Clayton, weil sie an einem Weihnachtstag geboren wurde. Merry Clayton gilt als eine der weltbesten Soul-Sängerinnen mit einer grandiosen Stimme, mit der sie durch ihre Arbeit mit verschiedenen Pop-Größen bekannt wurde.
Zu Beginn ihrer Karriere sang mit solch klangvollen Namen wie Elvis Presley, Bobby Darin, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker, Neil Young + Carole King. Nach ihrem Duett mit Mick Jagger auf dem Rolling Stones Album „Gimme Shelter“ + der Symphonie-Version von „The Acid Queen“ auf dem Tommy-Album, gelangte sie zu weltweitem Ruhm.
